This One’s Gonna Offend Some Folks…

October 10th, 2011 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Day 9:
I was on Facebook today and confronted with this editorial cartoon.

That’s all well and good. I assumed the message was never forget or take for granted the sacrifices others made for your sweet life. A good message, to be sure. But then I made the classic internet mistake of reading the comments under the photo. Some people clearly gleaned a different message than I did…

A prime example of our country losing its dignity and respect…..keep prayers and pledges in school!

Woah, woah WOAH!!! How did you slip prayer in there? How exactly is forcing all kids to pray under the same belief system going to help? We don’t even know WHY the kid isn’t standing. Is he objecting because the pledge of allegiance is a symbolic chant that means nothing to a kid or is it because he’s a lazy, self-entitled douche bag? …ok, it’s probably the latter. But how will prayer help? Prayer does not stop douche bags from being douche bags. Don’t believe me? You can ask the Phelps family when they show up at Steve Jobs’ funeral to protest.

To be clear, I don’t object to prayer being allowed in schools, i.e. a moment of silence for kids to do whatever they want (pray, daydream, plot ways to make a Ferris Beuler like escape). I’m against any sort of school LEAD prayer. You work on the 3 R’s at school, we’ll work on the afterlife at home.

Somebody needs to whip that boy’s PARENTS instead! ~Doc

Really? You need to WHIP the parents because their kid didn’t stand at attention to salute an inanimate object? The flag doesn’t care, why do you care so much? If there was a second panel to this cartoon and it showed the kid flipping off the vet, THEN you can whip the parents.

Doc – it would be nice to think parents have ultimate control over our children these days, but, hypothetically, that kid’s parents may work two jobs each, leaving him at the mercy of the “friendly” neighbourhood Marxists who reinforce the indoctrination of his teachers…etc. Now life on the NY “Gulag” was more intensely left – a pressure cooker ‘cooked up’ by Columbia School of Sociology and Rockefeller and Co, but the assault on family and parental authority is intense and constant, and I haven’t even started on the media! Besides, how many schools recite the Pledge of Allegiance these days?

Where are all these neighborhood Marxists? Apparently the gang life in New York is not at all what they show on CSY;NY or Law and Order. Is there really an assault on parental authority? It seems like all I ever hear is “that should be up to the parents.” And you hear if from both sides. Seems like people are always looking out for the parents…it’s just that the parents aren’t doing a bang up job.

He NEEDS to Respect the Flag and Our Veterans, WHO were killed or injured in the line of duty defending and protecting that he is DISRESPECTING. By disrespecting the Flag, He is also saying F —- You to Our Vets. I admit, that I don’t know the words of the Pledge or National Anthem by heart, but I ALWAYS STAND UP when I see a US Flag, when I am able to stand that is.

“You have to respect the flag or else you’re spitting in the face of the soldiers who fought for your freedoms…I didn’t bother to learn the silly chant but YOU should! So shame on you for not!” -Johhny Hypocrite

If he fought to defend that right, wouldn’t it be more insulting NOT to use that right?

Let’s say you put in a lot of time and effort and money to get me a present…a new state of the art laptop. Then a few months later you come to my house and see the box sitting on the floor unopened. Wouldn’t you be insulted?

Just a thought.

Oh wait…I wrote that one. Tee hee! I’m sure there are flames a comin’. Stay tuned.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let’s back up to before the kids stood up for the Pledge. All politics, religion, and incomprehensible comments aside, why isn’t Kevin dragging his ass down to the VP’s office for putting his feet up on the desk and showing such obvious disrespect towards his teacher and school property?

Now THAT is a good point, Jenn. That vet didn’t fight for his right to damage property paid for by the US taxpayer! Get your feet on the floor, Kevin!

I don’t care if the kid doesn’t want to recite the Pledge, but he better at least be made to stand up with the other students during it. He looks like a kid that needs a spanking. It is his right to not say the pledge unless he wants. But that doesn’t mean he can’t show a guessed to his class some manners.
