Sugar vs. The Government…Who Do You Root For?

March 11th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

So today in New York, a judge struck down the law banning sugary drinks from being larger than 16 ounces.

A friend of a friend had this to say about it on Facebook.

It is our bodies. If we want to load it with sugar then so be it. They are just trying to find more and more ways to control people. If they are going to take away sugar drinks then they need to take away everything fried and greasy too.

I’m divided on this. Read the rest of this entry »

After He Kicks His Feet, We Talk Colors

March 11th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

If you listen to the show (and why would you?), you may remember way back in episode 100 Andy told a story of his then infant son kicking his feet. He told it like it was some amazing thing and I mocked him because…how hard is it to kick feet? Andy and our guest that week, Geoff, assured Noah and I that we would understand when we were parents. Sometimes your kids do things and they are amazing and you want to tell people about your amazing kids. Noah and I didn’t buy it. In fact, it’s a trope on the show to this day. When we say “he kicks his feet back and forth” that means you’re telling a story about your kids that no one should care about.

Cue music “he kicks his feet back and forth…”

So I’m putting my son to bed last night and we’re talking about his day. When I say “we’re talking” I really mean I am talking and he is occasionally interjecting with “yeah” and “more.” (He’s not even 2 yet, what were you expecting Sorkin dialogue?) Finally I get to colors. I say “You used a lot of colors today like red, blue, green, yellow, black, gray, white, pink, and brown. Did I forget any?”

“Orange!” says my 23 month old son…and this time daddy crapped his pants. It was one of those parent moments where you realize your child is actually understanding and interacting. It sneaks up on you. I was floored! I was so amazed that you know how many people I’ve told about this?

None.

That’s right. Andy and Geoff are still wrong! even though I was amazed, I know no one else will care or appreciate it. The only reason I made you read that story is so you know that I know that it is a boring story. And now Geoff and Andy know that is possible to be amazed by your child and still know what is and isn’t a good story. I win!

ORANGE!!!

Daylight Saving Time

March 10th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Why do we still do Daylight Saving Time? Who is this helping? I want answers?! Why am I losing an hour of sleep for this. And don’t give me any of this “you get an hour of extra sleep in fall” bullcrap! Sleep six months form now does not help me be less sleepy now!

How is Arizona AHEAD of the curve on this one? How did that happen? What are we doing America? Get it together! I’m going back to bed…

Superman Returns 2

March 9th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Man of Steel is coming to theaters this June…there’s nothing anyone can do to stop it. A lot of people are excited. Some of us are leery. I have ranted previously about my dismay at the ditching of the John Williams score. But unless you were reading my blogs back on MySpace back in 2007, you don’t know of the sequel idea I had for Superman Returns. I didn’t fully flesh it out then, so I plan to do so now.

March 8th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Just a heads up, there will be no new “regular” episode of TANcast this week…BUT we will have two mini episodes. One of the mini-episodes will feature special guest: Geoff! Also, it spawned the concept of “Mark Bane!” After the episode, I was inspired to run with the concept a bit. Enjoy!

Pardon The Interruption

March 8th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Some of you may have noticed I missed a day of blogging. To say that I had a rough 24 hours would be giving the term “rough” quite a workout. I won’t go into details because the main story is not my own, but it involved health scares, hospital visits, and and a whole lot of stress. The result is that everyone is fine now and life will get back to normal relatively soon. So I guess you could say it all has a happy ending. (No, not THAT kind…perv!)

At times like these, you really find out who your friends are. Now, I feel that phrase normally is used to disparage “fair weather” friends, but I mean it to prop up the amazing group of people I have in my life. From Andy and Noah, to Miranda (wife of frequent TANguest: Geoff…who was also there for us, I might add) to friends of my wife’s who you’ve never heard of and will never read this blog…people really stepped up and helped in ways both tangible and emotional. It’s good to know when the Babb train goes off track, there are so many wonderful people ready to help right our course.

Even though most of them will never read this, I want to use this space to say thank you.

…and now this blog series will stop being cryptic and dramatic and go back to being all about typos and failed attempts at humor. The way God intended it!

I Really Hope I’m Not Sexist

March 5th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

If you’ve heard the latest TANcast, you may have heard me rant at length about Jennifer Schwalbach’s feminist tirade on the post-Oscar SModcast. After editing the episode, I worry that I come of as a “woman hater.” I like to think that I’m not. I think women should be treated equally under the law and in everyday life. But I wonder…am I the kind of guy I hate?

Truth be told, I found the “We Saw Your Boobs” number at the Oscars hilarious. Does that make me a sexist pig. I get that it’s supposed to be ironic. The joke is supposed to be that this is an entirely inappropriate number for the Academy Awards. But I still laughed my silly ass off. So am I any better than the guy cat calling at women? Jennifer Schwalbach had a complaint. She felt that her gender was being objectified. While I understand her point, I feel she horribly over reacted…but who am I to say that?

Basically I am conflicted. Sometimes I want to be the nice guy and the jerk at the same time and you just can’t. Sadly, I fear this time, I am the jerk.

Ah well…BOOBS!!!

PS-I would have laughed just as hard at a song called “We Saw Your Dong,” but we all know that would have been a way shorter song.
