Wet Willie

December 27th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

31 Blogs of Christmas
Day 27

Why do they call a “Wet Willie” a “Wet Willie?”

Was there a guy named Willie who would o around sticking his finger in people’s ears? Then someone added the twist of licking it first and so this modification was dubbed the wet version of “The Willie?” Then the Wet Willie became so popular that everyone forgot about The Willie?

Or maybe the finger is supposed to be a stand in for a…” Willie.”

There are a billion other things I could/should be blogging about today, but it’s late and after 2 days of chasing a toddler and Andy through Disneyland, this is all I got for ya.

I’ll do better tomorrow…I hope.

Christmas is Extended

December 26th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

31 Blogs of Christmas
Day 26

I’m typing this blog next door to the Happiest Place on Earth! Last year at about this time, I was actually feeling kinda bummed out. Christmas was over and I felt like it passed me by. This year, I made sure to start celebrating early…and if you’ve been reading the blogs over the past few weeks, you’ve been forced to celebrate with me.

But this is an even better way to avoid the post-Christmas blues. My family and I are gonna spend a few days at Disneyland where the Christmas spirit is still going strong. Small World is decked out in holiday cheer, Main Street will be pumping out some of my favorite Christmas tunes, and to top it off, Andy and his wife and kid are here!

My only worry was how I was gonna find a way to blog while down here. Fortunately “Santa” (aka my mom) hooked me up with a Windows tablet. It’s pretty sweet. I haven’t fully explored the thing, but I’m blogging in bed at 2:30 am and I’m lovin’ it. Now if only my son would go back to sleep so he can be well rested for tomorrow.

“I wanna get up right now.”

…it’s gonna be a long night.

CHRISTMAS!!!

31 Blogs of Christmas
Day 25

Made it! I’ve wrapped all the presents, we’ve bought all the food, decorated the house, decorated the tree, sung the carols, watched the movies, all that’s left now is to enjoy the day. Hurray for Christmas. I’m so glad I took the time to enjoy the season this year. (and even more glad that I’m extending it 3 extra days…AH HA AHAHAH)

I won’t take up too much of YOUR day with this blog, but I do invite you to watch this scene from the end of Scrooged…and then I invite you to put in your copy of Scrooged and watch it.

God bless us, every one.

5 Christmas Songs I Secretly Skip

December 24th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Day 24

It’s Christmas eve! Even if you were fighting it before, you can’t escape it now…it’s Christmas time, baby! By this point, Christmas music is playing everywhere. As you have no doubt been able to tell over the last month of blogging, I LOVE Christmas music! I love it, love it, love it! However…there are a few Christmas songs that just don’t do it for me. That’s what this list is for.

To be clear, to make this list, the song has to be generally loved. So no Christmas Shoes or anything sung by Justin Bieber. It’s likely that at least one of these songs will make you say, “WHAT?! How can you not like that song?!” Well, read on and find out…

Frank Sinatra – Jingle Bells

I know, sacrilege to criticize ‘ol blue eyes, but I can’t even get past the goofy choir beginning of this songs. Listen, singing monkeys, I know how Jingle Bells is spelled just let Frankie sing. But once he does they keep jumping in. SHUSH!!! Read the rest of this entry »

Day 23

You may have noticed that this blog and yesterday’s blog were late. That’s because I had a choice to make…edit the latest TANcast episode or write blogs.I chose to get the episode up. I feel it was worth it just for the discussion of Statue of Liberty.

But I did want to make something worth the wait, so here is some of the “Did You Know…” facts from the Music Choice* channel. (They’re playing the “Sounds of the Season.”)

Did I know J. Edgar Hoover what in 1895? Celebrated Christmas? Didn’t most people? Did you guys crack open the eggnog early? Read the rest of this entry »

Twas The Copyright Before Christmas

December 21st, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

31 Blogs of Christmas
Day 21

Recently I uploaded a new Kingdom Comedy video…twice. Here’s the first version:

If you’re on a mobile device, you just saw a fat load of nothing. That’s because Disney recognized their song and decided to take action…by blocking access to the video…but only blocking mobile devices. SO as I sit here on my laptop, I can watch it with no issues.

I’m actually pretty impressed with Disney for this. Believe it or not, with all the videos I’ve made about the parks over the years – using park audio – this is the first time I’ve run afoul of their copyright policies. Even then, their response was not to shut me down but just to restrict my videos from mobile devices (Sheesh! How many times am I going to mention mobile devices in this blog?*)

I know a rep at Disney didn’t see my video personally and decide what action to take…I’m sure the whole process is automated. But I still respect Disney’s method of protecting their copyrighted material while still allowing fan projects to be posted. Merry Christmas, Disney!

Oh, and if you’re on a mobile device and want to see my new Kingdom Comedy, the edited for mobile devices version is below. (You miss the “sing-a-long” portion, but you still get the main thrust of the video.)

The 5 Best Christmas Songs at Disneyland

December 20th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

31 Blogs of Christmas
Day 20

I love Disneyland and I love Christmas songs. This is an instance where two great tastes taste great together.

Believe in Holiday Magic (Can You Remember)

I remember posting this as one of my favorite songs from the Disney Parks a while back. It’s such a perfect Christmasy song. Except it started as the music to the regular Disney World fireworks. They basically just Weird Al-ed it to be about Christmas. You would think that would make it lose it’s Christmas luster for me, somehow it doesn’t at all. (Pay no attentuion to the poster of this video’s goofy edit at the end)

Country Bear Christmas Hoedown

This one’s not around anymore but the music lives on in my iPhone. Great renditions of some classic Christmas favorites and even a great original Christmas song, “Rock and Roll Santa.” Love it.

The Main Street Music Loop

I love to just put this on at work. Every few minutes it’ll spark some memory of walking through the park at Christmas time (which I’ve done every year since I was in grade school…so that’s a lot of memories)

A Christmas Fantasy Parade

It’s funny, I rarely sit to watch the parades, but the music for this one has stuck with me all these years. It’s such a perfect blend of that Disney style and a Christmas carol. I’m sure I’ll find out that it wasn’t written as a Christmas song at all, but I don’t care. It’s perfect.

A Small World Holiday Jingle Shells

Self serving to put my own video as number 1? Perhaps, but no compromise of truth here. My son somehow latched on to the one minute portion of the Small World Holiday soundtrack where the mermaids sing an alternate version of Jingle Bells. He loves it. Sings it all the time. Asks me and my wife to sing it all the time. It’s made me love it too. This is some Disney love that my son came to on his own. I wasn’t pushing this on him, he just gravitated toward it. So I’m throwing my full support behind it. Sing that mermaid song, little buddy!

What the Duck?!

December 19th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Day 19

Once again, everyone on every side of a debate are wrong and it falls to me to straighten everybody out. If you haven’t heard some dude from Duck Dynasty (who’s name is not even close to important enough for me to look up) got suspended from the show because he liked vaginas better than men’s butts. Oh…and also compared homosexuality to bestiality. Now people one side are angry at his comments while people on the other side are complaining that his freedom of speech has been violated.

First off, hos freedom of speech wasn’t violated. A&E is not the government, they are a private company. If they feel like suspending him from the show, they can. Maybe they don’t want to be seen to condone someone saying that a consensual relationship between two adults is the same as sneaking up on a sheep and going to town.

To the other side, how could you possibly be surprised that a dude from Duck Dynasty has horrible things to say about homosexuality? I mean, go ahead…threaten to boycott the show. However, I imagine you, like me, have never seen it and never plan on seeing it, so you know it doesn’t matter.

Besides, we all know how this is gonna play out…the duck dude will say a few things to smooth things out (without actually retracting anything) and tomorrow Miley Cirus will lick her own tit on a stage in Miami and we’ll all forget all about Who Gives A Duck Dynasty.

Now then, back to Christmas…
