Danger, Will Robinson!
January 24th, 2009 . by TANcast AdminTANcast is currently being upgraded behind the scenes. It’s early on a Saturday, so hopefully none of you will notice.
This post will be updated when the upgrade is complete.
Update: The upgrade is complete and the WordPress Plugins have been reactivated. The site should look and behave exactly as it used to. If you see any problems, please either leave a comment on this post or, if you can’t, e-mail Andy (his e-mail address is super easy to guess).

So what was the upgrade?

It’s a behind the scenes thing that makes things a little easier/slicker for us.

I feel like chicken tonight.

The iTunes link seems to be working from my end. Can you not see TANcast in the iTunes Store or not download episodes?

Ah there is a problem with the Podcast feed it’s not just iTunes the feed url doesn’t seem to be working…when Andy wakes up, hopefully he can fix it.

Looks like the upgrade overwrote (or superseded) a rewrite rule in our .htaccess file and I, genius that I am, don’t have a backup to check. Somehow I’d thought that WordPress made the pretty “/feed/podcast/” URL itself, but I checked the WP docs and no, it doesn’t.
When I get back from grabbing lunch I’ll either figure out what the rule should be or else I’ll redirect iTunes to the less-pretty, real URL for the category feed.

This SHOULD be fixed now. I’ve changed the Podcast feed URL to:
http://tancast.com/category/podcast/feed/
This is a default WordPress URL for a category feed and should hopefully never break again unless we fuck up the category.
I’ve pinged iTunes with the update (or I supposedly did, since it seems slow to pick it up), updated the site’s HTML to link the new URL, and updated the link in the upper right area on the main page.
I also added a permanent redirect from http://tancast.com/feed/podcast/ to this new URL, so pretty much every possible client (including the currently retarded iTunes) should find itself at the updated location upon trying to fetch the bad link.
I just checked iTunes and it looks like the HTTP 301 redirect works at least. Can anyone else confirm? Also, can anyone with a Zune marketplace subscription check this?
