My geek is showing…

October 16th, 2008 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

Here it is…the first look at the bridge of JJ Abrams’ Enterprise.

(Click the photo to see it full size)

My feelings are mixed…I’m excited by the new look…but also a little disappointed that it’s so different from the classic bridge.

Why make a movie about Star Trek if you just wanna change it all? Make a movie called JJ Abrams’ Wacky Space adventures and leave the legend alone.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see…

I’m not a big fan of Star Trek, but I have to agree with you on this one Tim. This needs to go… even I can see the difference, and I’ve watched maybe… five episodes of Star Trek.

I am extremely excited for this movie. Based on everything that Abrams and Nimoy have said, I think it’s actually going to be really good. This is going to be the Batman Begins of the Star Trek franchise.

But, I’m not one of those people who gets upset when a beloved franchise is rebooted, so I guess I’m biased. Or, not biased enough…

But wasn’t the Enterprise from the original series several versions removed from the supposed original design? Or am I recalling a sloppy plot explanation from one of the movies?

The Little Sunflower thinks Shatner is HILARIOUS as Denny Crane on Boston Legal. Must show her some TOS episodes to reveal the simultaneously wooden/overblown and pompous Shatner WE came to know and love.

Does anyone else find it hilarious that this pic comes from MTV? Since when did MTV care about Star Trek?
Anyway…I guess it’s pretty cool…I think it still looks enough like the classic that it’s recognizable as Star Trek.

Tim, you can not look at that single picture and say they’re changing everything. Personally, I’m not too impressed with the kid playing Kirk, but Urban’s look is screaming McCoy, and the guy from Heroes looks like he’s pulling off a good Spock.

Plus, I have a few friends that have worked on it, and visited the set, and they say it’s good. A lot better than it has any right to be.

I’m just trying to stay optimistic.

I am not a Star Trek geek like my two co-horts but I did enjoy the shows. I personally am OK with them changing things up and I am a JJ Abrams fan. Long as there isn’t a scene where the crew are hiding in some kids garden and John Turturro doesn’t rip open his shirt to reveal a superman type S, then I am good.

Hey, when they released the first movie and the bridge didn’t look too much like the TV show, and the bridge (and lighting!) in Generations didn’t look exactly like TNG, I came to grips with the idea that shit changes. As long as the story is good, I’m good.

I’m hoping Spock eats some brains and gains powers from it, and then McCoy shoots a polar bear that comes out of nowhere while Kirk’s dead father waves at him from a distance, then they all get eaten by a huge monster with a cute name, like maybe “Daisy” or something like that.
