I just stepped out of the house to warm up the car before taking my son to get a shot, and it is TEN FUCKING DEGREES out here (-12 C for people using the more sensible metric system). I live at a fairly low latitude and altitude, so this is pretty insane.

I miss California sometimes…

PS: This post got stuck in my iPhone a week ago and never posted, so I went back in time and put it in the right place.  It has since been warmer, almost as cold again, and then warmer again.  It’s like the thermometer is hooked up to a yo-yo.

Tim mentioned personal crises in a previous post. Here’s some details on mine.

The Bush-flavored economy finally bested me. My company had a huge (like 1/6 gone) “reduction in force” that included several directors and executives and moved around whole organizational structures. It also cost me and several people I work with (oops: worked with) our jobs.

I’m conflicted. I like the people still there (even the ones who I’m pretty sure picked me to cut) and I want the company to succeed. On the other hand, now I have to go find me a new jobby job.

Ah, well…

As the Bard himself said: Dadada, da, da. Another one bites the dust.

In case you care and use a Mac or Linux, Boxee has opened up its Alpha. So now anyone can download the software and try it. I personally haven’t used it that much but the main reason for that is I watch most things on the computer connected to my tv and it is running Vista. I have checked out XBMC and Plex (Mac Only) as well. So far I like Boxee the best because you can browse sites like Hulu, Comedy Central and Apple Trailers out of the box. I know you can do at least some of that stuff with XBMC and Plex but it seems you have to use scripts and plug ins and it was too much of a hassle for me. To be fair though I haven’t used any of the products that much. I will try and give them all a spin and give a more detailed review.

In other geek news. I am going to try and load Windows 7 on my Mac and run it in Parallels or Boot Camp, whichever works. I did a quick Google search and saw some people got it to work but I haven’t researched the best way to do it.

Nothing else to report for now.

Yup…we’re not in our little TANwindow this week. Personal crises, prior commitments, and poor planning and communication have created a perfect storm that amounts to no TANcast this week 🙁
