    Tim, awesome answering machine messages!

Okay, here’s my serious, librarian moment, for the ten people who read this:

The simplest explanation of Obamacare is that it just requires people to have insurance, which could actually help the economy. The basic idea of insurance is that the more people who pay into it, the lower the fees — the people with more problems don’t end up in debt and living on the street for things that are beyond their control, because they’re balanced out by people without problems. Obamacare is not a new, government-run insurance company; it’s a gateway to the companies that already exist, like Kaiser and Blue Cross.

There have been problems with the website (healthcare.gov), but as the guys said, that’s to be expected with a new service that hundreds of thousands of people are trying to use. (You have through March to sign up.) Check with your local library to find out if that’s even the site you should use. Some states have their own sites. California’s is coveredca.com. It’s also been having problems, notably with the physician directory, but there are also call centers, so you can get questions answered by phone. Once again, check with your local library, because many are hosting Obamacare workshops or can refer you to free organizations that help people enroll.
