It shouldn’t be possible, but a team that was 4-8 about a month ago managed to make the playoffs with an 8-8 record and then beat a 12-4 team whose quarterback was just declared League’s Most Valuable Player.
My Chargers were screwed out of at least two wins this season thanks to blown calls, so I think their record is misleading. They had a points-for to points-against differential better than half of the 11-5 and 12-4 teams, including Payton Manning’s Colts.
On the other hand, Indianapolis had the #5 rated passing offense, were the favored winners (by 1 point), and came in on a 9 game winning streak. Oh, and that League MVP thing…
It was a squeaker, with two goal-line/end-zone Chargers turn-overs, back-to-back Colts penalties in overtime that gave San Diego an unexpected first down and then easy field goal position, and other crazy plays and calls throughout. I think I’m just now starting to untie the knots in my stomach, more than three hours after the fact.
