Son of the Mask should have won. At least Batman and Robin was enjoyable.

I’m with Andy and Vrej. I was very young when I saw both movies, and even as a child, with my taste in pop culture severely lacking, I didn’t like Son of the Mask. With Batman and Robin, you can turn your brain off and enjoy it. Well, maybe not Andy. Also, I didn’t get the Peoria reference.

What is your criteria for this little tournament? Are you including movies featured on MST3K?

  4. ChelseaNo Gravatar Says:

Is it too late to put a ballot in for “Lost In Translation”?

This tournament is gonna last a while. Feel free to make as many suggestions as you’d like.

If you haven’t listened to this episode yet, SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT!

After the unanimous feedback that Son of the Mask was worse, I’ve been watching clips of it on YouTube and I have to say, it really doesn’t seem as bad. Does it seem good? Not at all. But part of the terribleness of Batman and Robin was the expectation that it wasn’t going to be a steamy pile of WTF. Son of the Mask seems slight more awful than it looks, but B&R was WAY worse than it looked.

That’s all. Just defending my position. If Netfix ever has SotM streaming, I will watch it and perhaps be proved wrong.

had a Facebook chat with my friend about it and she said both were hideous movies, but son of the mask had a terrifying baby we might continue the debate at disneyland tomorrow. personally both are shit not sure which is worse yet

  7. Kiki (Kyra)No Gravatar Says:

Tim, I don’t think anyone here disagrees that the hype/build up/anticipation of B&R and what was delivered was awful and left everyone hanging. I agree. However, if you compare the movies side by side, I think that’s when you find which was worse. To see if half remembering the movies had anything to do with it, I watched them again. (What else are you going to do on 2 hour commutes both ways to school and back via the bus?) I totally agree that B&R wasn’t good. But I was able to laugh at the corny-ness of a majority of it and cringe where necessary. But I watched Son of the Mask (CANNOT believe the shitty effects were from the mid 00’s!) and asked myself who would ever green light this.

    My Andying is now over.

If I was God, you’d all be getting in to Heaven.

Except Tim. Tim would to a special Hell where he had to watch Son of the Mask and Batman & Robin on infinite repeat until he repented.

Then he could go to regular Hell.

PS: On further reflection, while I agree that B&R was the nail in the coffin, Schumacher and Warner Brothers started digging the grave 2 years earlier. Furthermore…

    Son of the Mask
    IMDB: 2.1/10
    Rotten Tomatoes: 6% Fresh (2.8/10)
    Metacritic: 20/100

    Batman & Robin
    IMDB 3.6/10
    Rotten Tomatoes: 12% Fresh (3.4/10)
    Metacritic: 28/100

I have not seen B&R or SotM!

I think my goal will be to have not seen any movie that is in this tournament. =)

Tim, you’re not too old to dance like Michael Jackson. Not at all. I think you’re just out of practice. I mean, wasn’t Michael still performing well in his forties?

Finally. The very end of the podcast explains the title!
