WTF MySpace?!

September 15th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

30 Days and 30 Blogs
Day 15

I know…you read this title and thought, “Did Tim time travel back to 2005?”

No. I was just going to write a blog about something that happened back then and I thought to myself, “Hey I wonder if I blogged about this at the time it happened?” Well I may never know. My blog site of choice at the time was a little site called MySpace. I don’t know if you’ve heard, but in an effort to alienate the last few of us who still have accounts over there, MySpace deleted everyone’s blogs, private messages, and videos.

So after a bit of searching, I found out they realized that this was a dumb idea (sort of) and they are making people’s old blogs available…if you request them…at some point…in the next few months….they hope. Oh, and the videos, private messages and comments? They’re gone forever. As they say, “Now is your chance to start fresh with a whole new audience.”

…go screw yourself, MySpace.

Man, MySpace, I championed you. I stayed with you long after I should have left. And see how you repay me? I even defended you when you put up those annoying ads with sound…oh, I would link to my blog about it, BUT YOU TOOK IT AWAY!!!

Side note: major props to Andy. When we first started the TANcast website, he went back and populated this blog with all his old MySpace blogs. So he still has all his old stuff. Way to think ahead, buddy.

Holy shit. That quote reads in full:

    Where are my comments?
Your blog comments will not be available for download. Now is your chance to start fresh with a whole new audience.

I agree with Tim: that’s a whole lot of words when “Fuck you, serf!” would have sufficed.

As Tim pointed out, I already rescued basically all the MySpace content I cared about years ago, so this is the only link I care about now:

Ownership is a tricky concept in social media, and clearly it’s Justin Timberlake’s and Specific Media Group’s Space, not your space or mine.

Has Myspace deleted all blogs since 2005? I do not have my username, password or old email account and have searched through 4 pages of how to delete accounts and have found nothing helpful.
