You Can’t Please ANYONE

September 3rd, 2009 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

30 Days and 30 Blogs: Day 3

So Disney buys Marvel and people lose their collective minds! Marvel fans are panicking about Disney making the Marvel universe more “family friendly.” And Disney fans are fpitching a fit about the possibility of Marvel characters showing up in Disney theme parks.

I’ll grant you, I’m more a DC fan than Marvel (as I sit typing this in my Superman T-shirt) but I really don’t think people have that much to worry about. Disney owns Miramax Films after all…the people who gave us Pulp Fiction, Clerks, Scream, Sin City…etc. None of those are exactly family friendly. (Unless you count the scene in Clerks where Randal rattles off the porn titles in front of the little girl…heartwarming). Disney knows they aren’t experts on comics…I’m sure they’ll leave the comics to the comic makers.

Then there’s the Disney purists who want to make sure Marvel stays out of Disneyland and the like. I’ve even read one person say “…It would almost make me not want to go to Disney…” Really? Do we really need to fight tooth and nail to keep the purity of 75 more rides themed to Toy Story or Captain Jack Sparrow?

Look…Little girls like princess, little boys like superheros, and bloggers like over simplifying the world with widely accepted stereotypes. I’m just saying, there are a bunch of little boys who would love to come to Disneyland and spend some time with their favorite wall crawler or team of mutants. Don’t poo poo on their dreams just because Uncle Walt didn’t come up with the idea for a guy who gets angry and turns green. Lets allow as many people as possible who want to have fun in the park to do so. Excelsior!

    Ahahaha.
I used the same example (Disney owning Miramax) when someone gave me shit about this.
Also I punched him and told him to shut up. Maybe that’s why I’m single…
Great minds think alike! (and idiots never disagree)

    Well put Tim,

I’m all for it. I love Disney and I love Marvel (sorry Tim, but DC is crap, and Superman is boring to me, no offense though!)

I really dont think Disney is going to stick their fingers in Marvel too much, they even said in a statement that they want Marvel to keep it’s anonymity kinda like how they have done with Pixar

And I am one of those little boys that would love to go to Disney World and see Spider-Man……..even though I am a 31 year old little boy.

You just need to find a guy who likes some pain. Some guys will actually pay for it I hear.

I have to admit I was saddened by the news. My first thought was that Marvel would be watered down and made more family friendly. (I’m a Marvel over DC fan as well, but the latter has done some AWESOME series’)

But, I think it would be amazing to see my favorite comic heroes in a Disney park. Heck, they cost enough, why not inject some more fun into it for me?

plus it might be cool to see a comic dark ride instead of another roller coaster.

I just have horrible visions of the Punisher visiting the Hundred Acre Wood. Or maybe someone decides Wolverines belong in the wild. I don’t want to think about what Logan could do to Tigger. I’ve been having nightmares about this shit. I like Disney. I like Marvel. And I’ll be honest…. the idea of a new Fantasia with Captain Marvel appearing is fucking awesome. And it’s not just the people at Disney/Marvel I’m worried about. Who would have thought of doing Disney/Marvel crossover fanfics before this? Now, there’s bound to be a shit ton of them. And that scares me! A LOT! First person that decides to pair up Mickey/Cyclopes is getting an eye laser to the face!

Also, FUCK DC! Kidding… DC does Green Lantern, who is my favorite hero. On the other hand, DC did Batman, and I HATE Batman. And love the Joker. Batman counters all of Green Lantern’s awesome (I even wrote an essay blaming Batman for poverty…. and got a B+. I’ve thought out my hate). And none of DC’s other heroes really interest me. So it’s just kinda eh.

I’m just waiting for the inevitable Marvel cameos in the next Kingdom Hearts game.

Geoff, I’d buy the next Kingdom Hearts game. I haven’t played the other games, but I’ll be honest…. if Spidey is in it, I will play it.Spidey is fucking awesome!
