Day 28

So today is my son’s birthday. You’d expect me to get all mushy right here, but I did that already and it’ll be years before my son reads this, so I just cut out the middle man and told him happy birthday to his face (his adorable little face).

Yes…his candles are Superman, Batman, and Darth Vader..what?!

What I’m here to talk about today is the “party” for his birthday at his preschool. Apparently last week, when my wife picked him up from preschool, they asked if we were bringing in cupcakes for the class for his birthday. So we thought, “Oh…I guess that’s a thing parents do at preschool. Ok.” So today I show up with cupcakes. I assume they’ll eat them after lunch, which is right about when I pick my kid up.

So I take my extended lunch break that my office graciously gives me to pick up my son during the day and when I get to the preschool, they’re playing soccer. The teacher asks me, “Do you want to have the party after the game?”

What?! First of all, since when so they play soccer during lunch time. Second, why didn’t the party happen already? I’ve got to drop the kid off and get back to work.

So basically, they stop the game, bring all the kids inside. They all sit down at the table with the cupcakes in the center. They sing happy birthday to my son. He grabs a cupcake…and then they put the rest away and tell the other kids to go back outside and finish the soccer game.

What?! (again) What was the point of that? Now all the kids are like, “But I want the cupcake now!” And I’m like, “Why did I bring a bunch of cupcakes for these kids to randomly eat when my son isn’t even there?”

To top it off, as I’m putting my son in his car seat, his cupcake slips out of my hand and falls on the floor of my car. Now he’s crying, I’m irritated, the other kids are confused…this sucks.

Next year, I’m not bringing cupcakes.
