I only discovered the YouTube series Epic Rap Battles of History a few months ago, but I’ve jumped in with both feet. I love these videos. They’re funny, the beats are good, and their production values are very impressive. I’ve seen them all and I love most of them but I thought I’d count down my High 5 favorite Epic Rap Battles of History (Sadly since it’s only 5, I had to leave Doctor Who/Doc Brown and Vader/Hitler in the dust…sorry fellas)

5) Genghis Khan vs Easter Bunny

This one is so silly. The match up makes NO sense, but I still love it.
Best Line: “Your bunny ass is about to feel the wrath of Khan”
Beat Rating: 8 out of 10 Easter eggs

4) Babe Ruth vs Lance Armstrong

I’m not a sports guy. I couldn’t give a crap about baseball, much less cycling. But I love the back and forth between these two. The best part of sports is the trash talking…and now they put it to a beat. Genius!
Best Line: “Cause if you step to Ruth on the mic, I’ll fan your fancy bike and all. YOOOU’RE OUT, with three strikes, and just one ball!”
Beat Rating: 7 out of 10 “balls” (tee hee)

3) Nikola Tesla vs Thomas Edison

I really didn’t care for this one at first. But over time it has crawled it’s way into my heart. It’s Edison’s rapping style that really makes this one pop for me.
Best Line: “You never had sex, but you sure got screwed by me.”
Beat Rating: 7 out of 10 stolen patents
Who Won? Edison (Again! Bastard!)

2) Adam vs Eve

This one has a great beat and great pacing. I could be wrong, but it seems like they packed more jokes into this one than most. Also they found a way to make the whole “men and women” thing fresh. No easy task.
Best Line: “It ain’t summer, Eve, don’t try to play me like a douche!”
Beat Rating: 9 out of 10 forbidden apples
Who Won? Eve (women always win arguments…even rap arguments)

1) Steve Jobs vs Bill Gates

This is the one that I rock out to. At first I thought it was the beat I loved, but then I found an instrumental and it’s really the beat plus the rapping style that makes this so damn catchy.
Best Line: “I’m a boss! I own DOS!!!” (It’s the delivery and the music that makes this one great)
Beat Rating: 10 out of 10 pod bay doors
