2013 Nerd Rage

Day 3
2013 has been a banner year for upsetting fan boys at the box office. EVen though “geek culture” has hit the mainstream, not all the geeks are happy about it. I thought I’d look at some of the major fan boy nerd rages at the movies this year and see what side I’m on. Fair warning…spoiler alerts to come.
#1) Man of Steel
Why The Rage? Superman without the red underwear. Jonathan Kent is not the beacon of values for Clark like he is in the comics. Massive death toll/destruction. Superman kills.
My thoughts: The underwear was not a deal breaker for me. I agree that the Jonathan Kent character was mishandled. (A shame because Costner gave a great performance). The death toll/destruction bugged me a bit, mostly because it was never commented on in the movie. Finally superman killing does bug me. None of these were enough to get my nerd rage up on this one though…perhaps because my nerd rage needle was buried in the red by the lack of John Williams theme (have I mentioned that before?)
Tim On Board for the Nerd Rage? Yes…but for my own reasons
#2) Iron Man 3
Why The Rage? The Mandarin turns out to be nothing like the villain from the comics. Instead he’s a comic relief red herring.
My thoughts: Ive never picked up an Iron Man comic in my life, so I had nothing invested in the Mandarin. I thought the whole movie was awesome and hilarious.
Tim On Board for the Nerd Rage? Nope. Sorry guys, you’re on your own.
#3) Star Trek Into Darkness
Why The Rage? The movie is a pale re-hash of Space Seed and Wraith of Khan.
My thoughts: No, my nerd raging friends. Star Trek: Nemesis was a re-hash of Wraith of Khan, and a lame one at that. This was an alternate universe being allowed to play out. The only part that lost me was when Spock yelled, “KHAAAAAAN!!!” Lame
Tim On Board for the Nerd Rage? Not at all. This will be in my Blu-ray collection by years end.
#4) World War Z
Why The Rage? Apparently the movie bares little to no resemblance to the book.
My thoughts: Score one for never having read them
Tim On Board for the Nerd Rage? Lord no. But the movie didn’t really blow my skirt up either.
#5) Batfleck
Why The Rage? They cast Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Man of Steel 2. THe movie hasn’t shot a frame of film yet and people already have their panties in a twist.
My thoughts: I love Ben Affleck. It’s the one thing that Kevin Smith and I still agree on. I think he’ll do great.
Tim On Board for the Nerd Rage? No. #TeamBatfleck
So there you go. That wasn’t funny, interesting or even surprising. But it was a blog and I wrote it.
…oy, things are looking bleak already and it’s only day 3
