High 5 Lesser Known Michael Jackson Songs
March 26th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)It’s no secret I’m a huge Michael Jackson fan. But my fandom goes well beyond the hits like Billie Jean, Man in the Mirror, Thriller, etc. Michael has a lot of great songs buried deep in his albums that you may not have heard of. That’s where I come in. Here is my High 5 list of lesser known Michael Jackson Songs that are awesome.
5) Music and Me
I first heard this song in Michael’s movie “Moonwalker.” I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before or since. I don’t see how they didn’t use this more when he died. It’s a young Michael singing about how much he loves music. A lovely tender ballad with a great theme especially for the artistically inclined.
4) Get on the Floor
This song is from Off The Wall, Michael’s first solo album on Epic records. Most people know Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough and Rock With You from this album. But there are a number of hidden gems on this album. This is one of my favorites. Michael’s music is always very danceable, but this song is actually ABOUT dancing! It’s got a feeling somewhere between disco and R&B which really hits my sweet spot. Listen for his laugh towards the end, it just sounds like he’s having a good time while recording it.
3) Speechless
Michael’s last album didn’t exactly tear up the charts. Which is a shame because there were quite a few great tracks on “Invincible.” This is a great antidote to the pulse pounding bass of most of the rest of the album. It’s a slick ballad that builds and builds upon itself and just gets better as it goes. I could do without the abrupt return to acapella at the end but hey, that’s what the stop button is for.
2) Break of Dawn
A double dip from Invincible (I probably could have found all 5 songs from this album). This is one of Michael’s few songs that you can get your swerve on to. I’m not saying that I ever have or haven’t…I’m just saying…actually I’m saying nothing more on the subject. Just enjoy the song.
1) Lady In My Life
You have to dig pretty deep in the Thriller album to find a track that isn’t fairly well known. The album only has 9 songs and 7 were top ten singles. Well this was that 9th song, the very last track on the album. It once again has that disco feel to it, which I think may be what hurt it at the time, seeing as it was the 80’s and disco had fallen out of favor. But now with the debacle of over-saturated disco mania well behind us, a little disco flavor can be quite enjoyable when done right.
So there you have it. 5 songs for you to add to your playlists of awesome Michael Jackson songs. Did I skip any you were expecting to see? Let me know. Chamon! HEE HEE!!!

The Lady In My Life has more swervability than Break Of Dawn, IMHO…
