The Great Cougar Debate

March 20th, 2013 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)

With all that got talked about on the latest episode of TANcast, we didn’t get around to discussing one particular topic until after we were done recording. It all goes back to Saturday night when Noah sent Andy and me a text…

There is a white lady on Bart that is looking at me like she wants to fuuuccckkk. She is cougar status. Does cougar mean they are hot too?

To which Andy replied:

Yes.
I believe the ability to land a younger man is a requirement for cougarhood.

Not so fast, Andy. Now Tim steps in…

Technically, you only have to be older to be a cougar

And a debate was born. I asked my wife who thought the woman DID have to be hot. Since my wife and I were at a party, she decided to ask her friends. Most of them agreed with Andy. The ability to GET a younger man is what makes you a “cougar.”

But my thoughts were that the woman only has to CHASE younger men. There are plenty of cougars on the prowl everyday. Some of them get their prey, but some of them starve to death…doesn’t mean they’re not ALL cougars.

…so…hungry…

So, dear readers, I put it to you. Does a woman have to be hot/sexy to be considered a “cougar?”

Oh and Noah had one final text that night…

Maybe she was like [an] older house cat, cute and loveable but maybe ate one too many Whiskas

PS- Happy Hump Day….giggity!

I refer you to that episode of HIMYM where Marshall tasks Barney with sleeping with his teacher so that ha can enjoy a stress free class.

The chase doesn’t matter. Being attractive enough to get a younger man makes the Cougar. Not being able to get a younger man, but trying isn’t Cougar, it’s sad.

As much as I love agreeing with Andy, I’m pretty sure Tim’s right. A cougar is a cougar, regardless of whether it’s a starving cougar or a well fucked— I mean fed— cougar.

An older woman, hot or not, who might pursue, but cannot obtain, a younger man is not a cougar, much in the same way a dog that chases cars is not a driver.

Thankfully this debate is only academic for me since:
    1) I’m married
    2) I’m older than most cougarly women

Tim is right. A couger is a woman who pursues younger men. I’ve heard older women who are attractive to younger men called MILFs, whether the woman is known to be a mother or not. Seems those two designations would overlap in a lot of women.

Personally, “cougar” has scary connotations to me, seeing as you wouldn’t want to meet one when you’re out hiking. I’ve always pictured cougars as those women with too much makeup, dressing like they’re trying to look twenty years younger, who may catch a younger man, but only the slow, weak ones.
