Know Before the Show
March 7th, 2010 . by Tim Babb (TANcast's #1 Host/Editor Fan)Tim Babb’s March Blog Madness: Day 7
If you don’t follow me on Twitter or Facebook, then you missed this post:
“Wow! We are accidentally recording a really interesting TANcast!”
We were half way through recording this week’s show and I was really enjoying listening to Andy and Noah go back and forth. I truly think it was one of our most interesting shows.
But then after that we fell into our normal crap and Noah sent us a link to this picture:
I wanted to give those of you who read TANcast.com a jump on the folks who only listen to the podcast. Now when we mention this on the show you’ll already know about it.
…and knowing is half the battle!

I’m frequently amazed at how often there are things in fight and action scenes especially that don’t even vaguelly scan when you watch them, but that somone decided wasn’t worth reshooting, using another camera’s view of (even if just to obscure things) or just leaving out. I mean, the price of shooting has changed over the years, but sometimes I think “you know, if you’d just cut to that guy flinging himself head over heels instead of making us all see how unconvincing that kick that supposed led to it is, I’d still be ‘in the movie’ right now”.
Of course, that doesn’t apply here, because this guy is clearly not supposed to be being kicked by Luke anyway – he’s just reacting with shock and surprise at the midget Bobba Fett that someone has thrown at him.

There’s only one thing to do in a situation like that… BLAME THE FORCE! After seeing this, I demand a “Force Kick” ability in the next Star Wars game.

An interesting TANcast, you say? So the stuff we’ve been listening to for the past year and a half has been essentially lackluster??? This should be an epic show then.
As for the fight scene, I can write it off, because first its Star Wars, and my love for the films is so great I can write almost anything off from them, and second because you will see the same thing if you isolate and slow down ANY fight scene. That is why, I think, you see so many close up, quick jump cut fight scenes in modern movies (The Bourne Films, The Dark Knight) so as to minimize the possibility of a scene like the one above.
Personally I think the best fight scene EVER was in They Live. Pro wrestler + wide angle shots = AWESOME!!!

i just sat here watching that gif for about 45 seconds cracking up at Bobba Ftt in the background just lazily drifting by. he’s not quite upright, he’s kinda doing a dog paddle too.
