WTF, Whovians?

Day 7

So I’ve been plugging along at Doctor Who episodes when I can. (I don’t know where all my free time went..I think my kid is hiding it somewhere). So far, it’s been pretty enjoyable. Nothing on the level of Star Trek, but enjoyable. Then a few minutes ago I finished watching the episode entitled “Father’s Day.”

Don’t let the Syfy Channel-looking special effects fool you…

F*** you! Yes f*** all you Doctor Who fans for not warning me this was coming. You all knew this episode was hanging there waiting for me when you said, “Start with the 9th Doctor.” Daleck my balls*! So far this show has been light fluffy stuff like living plastic mannequins and farting aliens wearing human disguises. All the while the Doctor mugs and jokes his way through one wacky disaster after another. That’s fun enough. Who wouldn’t enjoy some wacky time traveling antics?

Then I ran headlong into episode 8 of season 1…”Father’s Day.” Rose, the Doctor’s human companion, goes back in time to the day her father died. Yeah…yeah F*** YOU!

To be clear, I’m not saying it was a bad episode. It was a great hour of television. But it ripped my heart out of my chest! This was one of the most emotional things I’ve watched in a while. Maybe it’s because I’m a father now myself. Maybe it’s because my own father passed away years ago. Maybe because the story reminded me of Andy’s friend. There is a lot of reasons that this hit my feels spot as hard as it did. But still this is the first time I get why people say that Doctor Who is as good as Star Trek.

But no more f***ing around, is there more of this heart ripping bulls*** in my future or can we go back to saving the world from laser shooting diaper pails please?

*”Dalek my balls” is NOT my joke. I heard it in one of my favorite Epic Rap Battles of History: Doc Brown vs. Doctor Who.

Okay, Tim, here’s your warning: Doctor who will make you laugh, then cry, then laugh and cry some more. Then it will introduce you to John Barrowman, who will give you tingly feelings. Then more laughing and crying. In the fourth season, it will scare the shit out of you, and then things get really intense.

Though, come to think of it, the father issue may have made this episode particularly heart-ripping for you.

Tim, whatever you do , DONT BLINK! ( you’ll get the reference soon… beware the weeping angel episodes… they are to me by far some of the freakier doctor who villians

I honestly think that I have actually cried more often when watching Doctor Who in the last ten years than for any other reason in the last twenty. Mostly under RTD.

Wow, I’m torn here, do I warn Tim and complain to Hillary at the same time, thereby spoiling something for Tim? URGH, it’s just so damn hard. *That’s what she said*.

Okay Tim, wanna be warned about the “feels” as the young people say. Okay, let’s go! Be warned, you get encouraging feels from “The Parting of Ways”, worried feels from “The Christmas Invasion”, must learn more from “School Reunion”, The same feels you got in this episode, you’ll get em in the 2 parter “Rise of the Cybermen” and “The Age of Steel”. There’s just too many to list.

Oh and speaking of Weeping Angels, be prepared to get scared, then excited but quickly disappointed, and finally scared again but quickly questioning what was the point. I did at least. But “Blink” is a good one, especially on Halloween.

Ummm Jesus, just wondering what you were gonna complain at me about? Tim said he wanted more of a warning… and thats what i tried doing without spoiling anything.. 🙁

Oh no, Hillary, don’t get mad, my apologies. Actually, when I said I was gonna complain to you, it was more like at you than about you. What I was gonna say is actually in the post above you, regarding the Weeping Angels, I’m not really a big fan of them outside “Blink”. That’s all, sorry for the confusion. 🙂
